Tenuta Il Poggione is one of Brunello's larger wineries, with 125 ha under vine and a tradition of winemaking dating from the 19th century. All of the vines for their Brunello are at least 20 years old, and the 3 years of ageing in cask make this wine solid and complex. An intense, lingering nose follows into a mouth-filling palate of smooth, ripe tannins and lashings of dark berry fruit and vanilla. Slight dried fruits and a long, rounded finish. Accompany this wine with mature cheese, red meats or game to balance their proteins with the wine's rounded yet firm tannins.
