Viña Real is part of CVNE, founded in 1879 and still family owned. The Viña Real winery is relatively new; an imposing structure resembling the top of a wine barrel. Quite a mature Reserva, this is sourced primarily from Rioja Alavesa and made only in top vintages. Ruby in colour with spicy aromas and ripe autumn fruit. The palate is round, with good ripe tannins, notes of vanilla and a warm and lingering finish. Drinking well now with rich meat dishes or fine cheeses.
